Somerscience Festival Highlights 2024

The Somerscience Festival took place on 6th May 2024 in Castle Cary and Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford. More than 5400 visitors enjoyed shows, workshops, interactive stands, talks, panel debates and demonstrations with something for all ages.  The festival covered a wide range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and brought these to life for rural communities of Somerset.

About Somerscience

The Somerscience Festival is an exciting annual science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) family festival that takes place across Bruton and Castle Cary in South Somerset. A stimulating blend of shows, workshops, talks, and our interactive science fair full of exhibitions and demonstrations; there is something for all ages, kids and adults, and it’s all free!

Not just another science festival, Somerscience is firmly rooted in Somerset, and the displays and activities will all have a particular relevance for the people of Somerset.

Why Somerscience?

Rural areas, and South Somerset in particular, are not well served for opportunities to engage with science, technology, engineering and maths. The British Science Association (2022) identified South Somerset as being in the bottom 10 areas nationally for provision of STEM outreach. Yet amazing STEM developments are taking place all around the county and underpinning much of what we usually associate with Somerset!

It’s time to let the people of Somerset in to the latest exciting science and technology developments on their doorstep and inspire future generations.
